The Louvre

Yesterday I went the the louvre for about 3 hours and covered about a tenth of it. Here are some pictures of the areas I got to see (medival, italian, egyptian). My attempt at photographing the Mona lisa took very long since there was about 100 other people crowding around it, but thanks to my awesome compact camera, I had no problem jumping in midair and taking a shot there, it took a few tries but it worked!

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

Hey all,

Last night I saw the newest edition to the Harry Potter series on opening day so I decided to write down my critique of the film. I wouldnt read this if you are planning on watching the film yourself.

I will start with the bad since overall, it was a great movie:

1. The ending. The movie ends just minutes after Dumbeldore dies, and unlike the book, Harry is not frozen under his cloak. In the book, Dumbeldore uses his last move before Draco disarms him to freeze Harry so that he could not interfer, while in the movie, he tells Harry to wait downstairs, where he runs into Snape right before Snape kills Dumbeldore. After this scene in the book, there is about a 20 page fight sceene where it is the D.A. and the order vs. the Death Eaters. I think if they had included this, I would not have been so depressed after the movie ended minutes after Dumbeldore died, playing very solemn music throught the credits, which made it worse.

2. The little details. This movie did a great job with the overall plot line, but left many details that do not correlate with the book. Besides the obvious one mentioned above during Dumbeldores death, there are a few others that I noticed. Before Harry and Dumbeldore leave to find the Horcrux, Harry overhears a conversation between Dumbeldore and Snape where Snape says something like "What if I do not want to do this anymore", and Dumbeldore says, "You agreed". Those of us who have read the 7th book in the series understand what this is about. Harry had no clue about Dumbeldore and Snape working together until Snape dies in the 7th book, holding the memory that Harry uses to find out the real story about Dumbeldore's death.

3. The memories. The memories were a great edition to the movie, but in the book there were at least 4 or 5 memories that Dumbeldore had shown Harry not two before Sluhorns real memory. This left gaps about ideas such as Dumbeldore and Harry discusing what the remaining Horcuxes are.

The good:

1.The graphics. Overall this movie had he best graphics out of any movie that I have seen. I especially like the scenes with the Death Eaters crashing the bridge, and the Quidditch match.

2.Overall plotline. This movie amazingly got in the key details that other movies like it have not. It follows the plot line of Harry, Ron, and Hermione overhearing Draco in Borgin and Burkes, Draco consistently disappearing off of the Maruaders Map, and letting the Death Eaters into the school.

Overall this was a great movie, with a horrible ending.

Les jardins de luxembourge

Hey all,

Today I went to some public gardens not far away from where I was staying and found the true things of french life. Tennis, boules, and speed chess. Boules was probably the best out of the three, and it was nothing like we have in the states. Here is a video, and then some pictures.

The rodin museum

Hey all,

Sorry for the fact that I have not updated the blog in a while so I will update it a few times right now.

A few days ago I went to the Rodin Museum, one of the great sculptures of the renissance. Here are some pictures.

The day trip to versielles

Hey all,

Today I went to verseilles and did a lot of walking so I will just post the pictures because I am worn out...
After I walked around for about 4 hours here, I went outside the castle and took a quick try on a seagway for a few euros for 15 minutes and it was awesome! It was awesome to ride. I am also looking for a somewhere where I can empty all of the photos on my camera so that you guys could see all of the pictures so if you know of somewhere that I can put 700 pictures, then tell me. It takes minutes to load one picture here so I would like somewhere that could do it faster also.

Well today I woke up and decided to go to the centre george pompidou, the center of modern art. I took the metro over there, and it seemed awesome, so I was thilled to go. All until I realized as I woke up on the door that it was closed on tuesday.... What type of building is closed on tuesday?

Oh well I decided to walk around town but then it started raining so I came back to the house. Here are some pictures.

The scary but nice day...

Today we went to the beach in a town called La Ciotat. It was super nice there and after seeing plentiful amounts of fish in the water, I decided to go on some long hikes.

The first of these hikes was the rock in the distannce on the left, and the second on the right. The first hike was really nice, ending in some good photos..

The second hike was longer but a little more disasterous; but with greater rewards picture wise, even thought I almost didnt get them down the mountain. Round trip Im guessing it was about 4 miles, with multiple 10 to 15 foot cliffs that I had to climb what a bummer..... it was harder then I expected and my shirt was drenched. It was an awesome view from the top, check it out.

And then, this happened.....

Good thing that I found my camera, or else I wouldnt have all of these pictures.

See ya,

The market and Ice Age

Hey,

Well last night, I experienced the cinema of France, watching Ice Age in 3D! It was pretty interesting..... The movie started out with previews, and then had a break when vendors could come out and sell food and drinks to the crowd. Then, they had more previews, followed by another break, and finally, the movie started. It was pretty interesting and I got most of the plot line (Sid finding the eggs, the animals going through the ice to where the dinosaurs are, the search for the guy who knocked their guides eye out) but I missed out on a lot of the jokes. That was a bummer because I didn't know what everyone was laughing about :(.

Then this morning we went to the 'farmers market', here are some pictures.

Today in Marsielle and the beach!

Today I went into Marsielle with my friend Mathieu. It was pretty awesome!

I was on a hill with a church with a 360 view of the city and it was a super nice view. The temperatures were in the upper 90s so we went to the beach for a while afterwards. We are going to go see Ice Age 3 in a little while! But it will be in french so I hope I get the plot line (if there is one haha) so it should be fun!
In the town that I am staying there is a cool fountain in the middle so I took a picture; here it is.

Two awesome things that I forgot to mention

Two things that I saw that I forgot to note on my first day of sightseeing.

First, in the cathedral of Notre Dame, there was an awesome city that they had built out of I have no clue.... Here are some pictures, it looks like it took months to build.

Also, in the musee d'Orasy, they had a model of the whole city of Paris. Now that probably took a long time to build. You walked right on top of it too!

This was pretty cool also.

See ya,

My camera working!!!! And the ride on the TGV

Hey everyone,

I just expirenced the TGV (Train a grande vitesse) which was pretty amazing. Although the views weren't very good (mostly farmland) the seats were like riding in a first class section of any airplane. There were fold out tables in the middle of the seats which I found very nice to sleep on! Here in Aix en Provence it is up towards the upper 80 to the 90s in temperatures which is a little change from Breckenridge, Colorado, where I was only a week ago. That's pretty hard to believe! We are planning on going to Marsielle tommarow and to the beach on Sunday where it should be very hot so the water should feel good. Ill make sure to put on some more pictures in a few hours when my camera is charged since Matthieu (the guy im staying with) and I happened to stumble across probably the only electronics store in town! See you all later

Aix en Provence, tomorrow the third

Hi everyone,

Tomorrow is the third of July and I will be heading off to the southern coast of France. I don't know if I can update this blog there but I will try.

Today I went walking around town and was able to succesfully take four pictures before my interesting camera battery gave out. The pictures were from across the Seine River from the Eiffle Tower. I'll upload pictures later but my camera is still not functioning because of the battery.

Food in France.....

Here I will make a few comments about the food here, and what I like and dislike about it.

Like:
Crepes, very very good even though I have had only one
French donuts! What they do is they cut the donut open, and fill it with nutella!
Chocolate bread, I mean how could you not like it!

Dislike:
French Fries, who has ever had unsalted french fries?

Kind of lame but here is a movie...

Ill keep this list updated throughout the trip and will add pictures later.

July the first!

Today I had a super busy day even though it only started at noon. I went to Notre Dame there and the priest was doing a mass thing so I just stayed on the outside of the middle and took some pictures.

After about thirty minutes or so I walked over to the Bastille which was a little longer than I expected about two miles and visited there for a while. After that I went to the Musee d'Orsay for a few hours since the museums here are free if you are under 18!!! Then I visited the opera and the Hotel d'Invalides (look at the attached pics for all of this). Then I climbed the Eiffle Tower which turned out to be a bummer because I didn't make it to the top :(. It turns out that you can only climb to the second floor and then you wait in a thirty minute line to ride up (what a bummer)......

Well it also seems that they really rip you off if you don't walk up. You have to buy four elevator passes in total to get all of the way up and back down so they hit the lazy people hard. I ended up running up a few thousand stairs but that's just me. I got up in a few minutes but was really bummed not to go to the top.

See yall, I'll keep you updated,Kyle
